twizzle

Can you first give us a short review about your band-history?

We started in the late 90s in Milred’s bedroom/studio grabbing samples from scratchy old records. The samples Mildred finds really inspire the stories and lyrics I write. The name Twizzle really evokes, to us, cutsie cocktail bars, fun and old-fashioned times and also a kind of twisted view on the world, which is how we see our music.

How would you describe your music?

Twizzle is a combination of patina and bordello wallpaper and David Lynch atmospheres. We enjoy evincing the innocent but you know, underneath, there’s something dark going on. I come from a film-making background and studied film in Prague. That strange dark city really inspired me. We both have cinematic-inspired backgrounds. We like to tell a story with lyrics but not be too obvious about it. It’s nice to let the music and samples tell some of the story too.

That strange dark city really inspired me.
Are you a studio-project or are you playing live as well?

We’re currently working in the studio on our full-length album and plan to play live after it’s release.

Where have you heard of the possibility to promote your music via Creative Commons?

We like the idea of Creative Commons. It seems like a much more flexible model than traditional copyright.

Creative Commons is a very good thing, but bands can´t earn any money this way. How do you solve this problem? Do you have Compact Discs for sale?

Right now all our music is free on Comfort Stand, which is run by my good friend, and band-mate, Otis Fodder. (Who I also collaborate with on The Bran Flakes) However, once we finish our new release we will sell the CD through Happi Tyme Records.

What do you think about the meaning of big record companies in the age of internet? Is a netlabel the better way to distribute music?

I love the idea how anyone can circumvent the traditional label with the internet. It really makes the whole thing so much more equal.

What will become a trend in the near future in your opinion?

We hope that flying ponies become a trend in the future.

What are you going to do next?

We’re working in-studio on a full-length CD …

Anything else you would like to let our readers know?

Yes! We would love to play at your club or party! Just ask and we will come play for you!
